Testament: "Brotherhood Of The Snake"

Formatisi a San Francisco nel 1983 nel bel mezzo del calderone che nel corso degli anni Ottanta ha alimentato la fucina dei metalheads di tutto il mondo, i Testament sono da sempre (e certamente senza validi motivi) gli "underdog" tra i fondatori del thrash, ma nel corso degli anni hanno visto solidificarsi una fanbase capace di traghettare la band al 2016 in ottima salute.

La carriera dei nostri è stata caratterizzata da qualche colpo andato a perdersi senza lasciare traccia, ma allo stesso tempo ha regalato album di grande spessore - The Legacy (1987), The New Order (1988), e The Gathering (1999) per fare alcuni esempi - che poco hanno da invidiare a quelle che sono considerate come le pietre miliari dei generi estremi.

Dopo la più che buona accoglienza riservata a Dark Roots Of Earth, uscito ormai quattro anni fa, il nuovo capitolo discografico della carriera dei Testament si preannuncia come una delle uscite metal più interessanti. "Brotherhood Of The Snake, questo il titolo dell'undicesimo lavoro del gruppo, uscirà il 28 ottobre per Nuclear Blast, e la band lo ha annunciato come uno degli episodi più "heavy" del proprio repertorio....

Eliran Kantor, artista che aveva realizzato l'artwork di Dark Roots Of Earth si è occupato della copertina del nuovo album; Juan Urteaga, Chuck Billy e Eric Peterson hanno curato la produzione del nuovo lavoro, che è stato invece mixato e masterizzato da Andy Sneap.

Riguardo alla titletrack ed all'album, Chuck Billy ha detto:
"Well, it's kind of like a concept record. I know, going into it, the past records, I was writing songs that were more personal and there were topics that were kind of real — losing a family member or anything that's real; that's what we were kind of writing. And Eric really wanted to kind of get back to, 'Let's write some cool stories and cool words and cool lyrics.' And so I was, like, 'Okay, that's cool.' And then, I kind of, at the time, was watching a TV series; it was a show called 'Ancient Aliens' that was on once a week. And it showed a lot of the connection between aliens and religion. And it kind of got my attention, because there was different religions all around the world, different spots in the world, where there was always the same alien being with big heads and strange bodies and flying objects in the sky. And it kind of made me realize, wow, how, that many thousands of years ago, did they communicate and see these same things unless it was real, unless there's something about it. So it really made me think, maybe there is something to these aliens and our existence and religion and everything."
